“An Ethical Framework for Lawyering in the Executive Branch of Government”
We invite you to join us for a webinar led by Elizabeth Sanderson, Former Senior Canadian Government Lawyer and Law Professor, as she examines “An Ethical Framework for Lawyering in the Executive Branch of Government”, moderated by Eric Boucher.
Lawyering in Commonwealth Governments involves unique, legal practice challenges. This October 19, 2023, one hour webinar provides a Canadian perspective and ethical framework for lawyers practicing within the Executive Branch of Government with reference to the jurisprudence from other Commonwealth jurisdictions.
The webinar will address the layers of professional, public law and public service duties of Canadian Government lawyers, as well as delineating the unique nature of the singular client, the Crown, grounded in the democracy principle. The webinar will also address specific, ethical challenges when working on behalf of the Chief Law Officer of the Crown in the public interest in an institutional context. It will also identify distinctions between private or corporate legal practice and practice in Government.
The presenter is Elizabeth Sanderson, a former senior Canadian Government lawyer and author of “Government Lawyering: Duties and Ethical Challenges” (LexisNexis, 2018).
