CLA News / Borneo Rainforest Law Conference session report: Intergenerational climate justice
B7: Intergenerational climate justice
This lively session was chaired by Christabel Derby, beginning with Sukumaran Vanugopal’s in-depth analysis of Malaysia’s international human rights obligations and the challenges faced implementing these in domestic law.
Professor Deji Adekunle considered obligations under the Convention on the Rights of the Child and how these rights can be operationalized with children at the centre.
Participants heard the UN Children’s Advisory Team as they explained the development and content of General Comment 26 on children’s rights to a healthy environment, issued by the Committee on the Rights of the Child. Fiona Ey challenged participants to take General Comment 26, raise awareness and use it within their own communities.
