Notice to Commonwealth Lawyers Association Members of Election of Office Bearers for the Term 2025 – 2027

The Commonwealth Lawyers Association (The CLA) Council will elect new Office Bearers for the term 2025-2027.

The CLA hereby invites all CLA members to submit nominations for the period 2025 – 2027 for the following offices :

  • President
  • Vice President Africa
  • Vice President Americas
  • Vice President Australasia
  • Vice President Europe
  • Treasurer

In accordance with the Constitution, the President, Vice Presidents, and Treasurer who are elected will hold office from 1st February 2025 until 31 January 2027.

NOTE:
• Pursuant to clause 8.2 of the CLA Constitution, any CLA member who has served as a Council member for a term of 4 years in the case of nominations for President, and 2 years in the case of nominations for Vice Presidents and Treasurer, is eligible to stand
• Nominees must be in good membership standing at the date of nomination and remain so until the conclusion of the election
• Nominations must be made and seconded by a CLA member in good standing with the Association (clause 10.7) at the date of the nomination
• Vice Presidents must be nominated from their own region.
• Nominations must include a photo and a statement (200 word limit) from the nominee outlining the time and skills that they would bring to the respective Office Bearer role for which they are being nominated. The photo and statement will be circulated to voting members of the Council. For reference find attached ‘Roles and Responsibilities’ for Office Holders and Council. (hyperlink to the document to download). The CLA Executive Committee reserve the right to edit any submissions for appropriate content.
• All nominations must be received by midnight GMT on 31st December 2024.”

Terms & Conditions

  • The form must be completed in full and all sections are mandatory. Incomplete entries will be automatically disqualified.
  • Entries exceeding the specified 500 word statement will be automatically cut off at the limit.
  • No entries will be accepted after the closing date of 5.00 pm BST 30th September 2024
  • Judging will take place over the period of the competition by an independent panel of judges and their decision will be final and no correspondence shall be entered into.
  • The winner will be notified by email and receive official notification of their award in writing in December 2024 subject to the panel’s decision. 
  • The winner agrees that their photograph maybe used in any publicity for the award, on the CLA website under the winner announcement and in the CLC25 program.  Any photographs will remain the property of CLA.
  • The winner (his or her representative where it is not possible for the winner to attend) will be presented with their award by the CLA President and members of Lexis Nexis senior management at the closing ceremony of CLC25 on the 10th April 2025 before the congress of delegates.
  • The winner shall receive an engraved trophy plus a contribution for travel arranged by the sponsor from country of origin to the CLC25 in Malta with entry to CLC25 for all conference days.
  • Should the winner not require the assistance as above, Lexis Nexis will endow a charity of the winner’s choice with a donation to that charity of USD $5,000.
  • No cash alternative to the prize above will be considered.
