C11 : Post-Brexit trade in the Commonwealth
Commonwealth to the fore? Does the UK’s post-EU future lie in examining anew its trading relationships within the Commonwealth, only a few of whose individual Commonwealth members now regard the Queen as Head of their individual states. The same applies to deepening trade with other major markets and trade blocs, the biggest of which is still represented by the UK’s immediate neighbours in the EU.
Our session will put into context the quandary of how the birthplace of the Commonwealth must re-evaluate all its trading relationships with the Commonwealth into the 21st century, balancing the huge opportunities of maintaining the best of what the UK has withdrawn from whilst at the same time reconnecting its trade links with the Commonwealth and, then, balancing that with reaching new markets elsewhere.
